GiD shown its capabilities at the III European Conference on Computational Mechanics, a congress devoted to solids, structures and coupled problems in engineering.

Linux versions are available for download too. Please check the download page for the apropiate version: kernel 2.2 or kernel 2.6 in 32-bits (i386) or kernel 2.6 in 64-bits (amd64).

GiD version 8 for Microsoft Windows has been released today. Linux versions for kernel 2.2, kernel 2.6 and for AMD 64 will be available very soon. This new version can be downloaded from here

3rd Conference on Advances and Applications of GiD has been celebrated

The third edition of the GiD Conference has been celebrated in Barcelona last 23rd of March 2006.

Users and developers had the opportunity to interchange their experiences on data generation , computer simulation and graphic visualization.

FIRST 64 bits GiD version for Linux

( 17. March 2006)

The first 64 bits beta version of GiD, 7.7.7b, for Linux is made public.

It was compiled on Suse 9.3 with kernel 2.6.11 system with gcc version 3.3.5 on a dual AMD opteron machine

3rd Conference on Advances and Applications of GiD

(March of 2005, Barcelona, Spain)

The objective of this third edition of the GiD Conference is to bringing together users and developers of the GiD pre/post processing system in order to exchange ideas and experience on the generation of data for computer simulation and the graphic visualization of numerical results.

Two Pre-conference courses describing basic and advanced features of GiD will be hold on March 22nd.

New GiD 7.6.0b beta version

(12. August of 2005)

Available for Windows and Linux a new GiD 7.6.0 beta version. Version news are:

  • Selection filter by condition fields
  • Updated mesh menus for semi-structured meshes
  • Option to reload the last model when restarting
  • Save and restore the project view
  • New style to draw volume elements without need to see the mesh boundary
  • Enhanced menus: (more logical location/name, disable/enable color by context, added icons)
  • Unload problemtype
  • Mesh errors enhanced: can reopen this window, better messages
  • RamDebugger provided inside GiD (F12 to open), sharing all needed packages
  • New installation program
  • Multiple mesh support (read, cuts, animations,etc.)
  • Coloured streamlines according to the vector used for the streamline or any other result
  • Changed the algorithm of stream lines to a five order Runge-Kutta and for triangles

FIRST official GiD version for Mac OS X

Today, the first official version of GiD, called 7.2.1, for Mac OS X is made public. It runs on Apple's Mac OS X, Darwin, and uses the X11 window system.

GiD won the 2002 Barcelona City Prize for technological investigation (Premis Ciutat de Barcelona)

On February 11th, the Prize 'Ciutat de Barcelona' 2002 of Technological Research was granted to the researchers of the International Center of Numerical Methods in Engineering (CIMNE), Eugenio Oñate, Ramon Ribó, Miguel de Riera Pasenau, Enrique Escolano y Jorge Suit Pérez, for the development of the GiD system, a innovative graphical interface of easy use to modelize the geometry and visualize the results of numerical simulations.

GiD is present in the XVth IFAC World Congress in Barcelona (Spain), from July 21st to 26th . The IFAC 15th World Congress is focused on the new directions of Automatic Control Science and Technology.

In this context the Congress puts emphasis on Emergent Automatic Control Application Fields, Social Challenge of Automation and Control Theory and Use of Advanced Information Technologies at the Congress.

GiD version 6.1.2a for Linux is available for download

In version 6.1.2 we found an error with just a couple of passwords. It seems that this error appeared when we changed the compilation platform, this last version was compiled on Mandrake 7.0 (egcs-2.91.66).

GiD+ collection version 1.2 is available for download

Two new interfaces have been added to the GiD+ collection: the NASTRAN and ANSYS interfaces permit to define the model to analyze inside GiD and transfer the data to Nastran or Ansys.

GiD will be present with a booth at the European Congress on Computational Methods in Applied Sciences and Engineering 2.000 that will take place in Barcelona from the 11th till the 14th of September. Check the Eccomas page for more details.

A new version of GiD has been released: version 6.1 for Linux (Intel), Windows, Silicon and Alpha (Digital UNIX).

  • Improved user-interface
  • More powerful geometric modeling and geometry import facilities
  • Import PARASOLID data
  • Improved mesh generation options
  • More options for creating data for analysis codes
  • Result over different element types at once, including new elements: points and lines
  • Support for Gauss Points values
  • Improved visualization facilities, animations, etc.


The new version is available for download. 1 month temporal passwords are available too. Permanent password and licenses are not compatible with those of GiD version 5.0, and will be available in September. Prices have changed, please look here for details.

 

GiD public presentation on 12th July . . .

There will be a GiD public presentation on the 12th July in the UPC in Barcelona (Spain). It will be held in Spanish and will describe the improvements that will appear in the next version 6, that is going to appear in the market during July.

Desarrollo de un sistema integrado para tratamiento de geometría, generación de malla y datos para el análisis por el método de los elementos finitos

This PHD thesis was presented the 20th of march 2000 by Ramon Ribó. Ramon Ribó (RAMSAN web page) is one of the GiD developers. A PDF copy of the PHD thesis in Spanish can be obtained from that web page.

 

GiD+ collection is available for download . . .

GiD+ is a collection of computer simulation codes attached to GiD in the form of modules. It also includes interfaces for existing simulation programs. The user can use these modules and create new ones that can be included inside the GiD+ collection.

The GiD mailing list has been created

The 'gidlist' mailing list is a forum about any subject related to GiD. It is a place where everybody can send its questions or suggestions and also answer other people questions. It can also be used as a place for the people to contact each others in order to share common interests like same field of study or interchange of 'problem types'.
